Cheikh Tchouambou Youmbi

Cheikh Tchouambou Youmbi is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Toronto. He completed his Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences at McMaster University in 2022.


Cheikh's research focuses on perioperative medicine, safe opioid prescribing, and critical care, including ongoing work with the SafeOP team to develop post-operative recommendations for prescribing pain medication after surgery. Cheikh’s academic path includes national presentations and peer-reviewed publications in anesthesiology and critical care, reflecting his commitment to patient safety and evidence-based practice.


Beyond medicine, Cheikh is a former varsity soccer athlete recognized provincially and nationally for both his on-field performance and his leadership in community service. He continues to champion equity and mentorship through leadership in the Black Medical Students’ Association and through grassroots programs supporting marginalized youth in sport and STEM.
